Marching Band

The AHS Marching Cardinals have been a recognized competitive marching band for more than a quarter of a century.  The band has won many local, state, national, and international awards during this time.

The AHS Marching Cardinals Staff:

  • Lee Peterson-Director
  • Lowell Larson- Drumline/Assistant Director
  • Karley Silverberg- Guard Instructor
  • Susan Potvin- Cymbal Tech

The band exists for the purpose of providing students with high quality experiences in the unique world of marching band.  These experiences include music performance, marching discipline, working with many peers, and "esprit de corps" (a strong sense of spirit and pride)!

Our 90 member band includes wind instruments, an extended percussion section, an American Flag section, rifles, and silks.

First year students (students going into grade 9) are strongly encouraged to participate in marching band.   Band membership helps with the transition to high school and acquaints these students with some of the older high school students.

Percussion and guard begin practices in March.  The entire band practices on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 6:30 AM until 8:00 AM starting April 29th.

The band's schedule involves about 10 performances each year beginning with Memorial Day services in May.  The band appears at community festivals in central Minnesota and the Twin Cites, as well as a yearly tour.

The yearly tours provide students with extended time to enjoy their peers, the chance to compete with bands from other areas, and the opportunity to experience cultural and historical places difference from their own.
